Post Holiday

After day 5 of the stomach virus, I called my doctor's office. The local office was closed, but I spoke to a nurse from their central office. She agreed that it has been going on too long, and advised me to go to an urgent care.

The urgent care doc is my new favorite person. He gave me a gram of an antibiotic, and said keep up with the yogurt and lomotil. Now it's Saturday morning, and no issues for 26 hours! Yay! Fingers crossed.

Baby afghan in progress! One more set of 6 rows, and it will be done.

I laid out my fancy templates for another zigzag table runner.

This one is more wintery than Xmasy. I hope to start sewing on it today.

I gave Moose some love, cleaned out the lint under the bobbin case, oiled her, gave her a new needle, and rethreaded her. She's all set!

To my left is a double window on one wall, ironing board and sheles on another.

Best worktable ever, a drafting table that I got years ago at a yard sale for $10.

Overflow desk, in front of the fabric stash.

From one of the two doorways.

I love how it looks on the coffee table in the living room!

Almost Turkey Day

After 48 hours of a stomach virus, I'm almost back to baseline. I've been eating yogurt every day to restore good gut bacteria.

I finished this, book 9 in a series that I've been reading since the beginning.

I put this together yesterday, a little tablerunner/hot pad for Heather. It's sewn together but not backed or anything.

And the two current table runners in progress are sewn to the backing and batting.

I also did another several rows on the current baby afghan, which I did not take a picture of.

Ugh

The best laid plans. We were going to go out to brunch, but I was up half the night, sick. So I plan to lay low today.

I got this top sewed together yesterday. Then I laid out this one for Heather, who wants red and white.

First layout, but she didn't like the gray.

Replaced the gray houses with plain red, and it was a winner. I'm so glad to be able to text pix! I asked what she wanted as a backing, and she said gray or winter. Went to the stash and found this:

Not a great pic, as it's lighter, but she loves it. There's a couple of yards, and I'll use it for this one and the top one.

And, she has to have a tooth pulled, and can do it Wednesday or wait 3 weeks due to her schedule. So she asked if we can change our Wednesday Thanksgiving til tomorrow. I suggested we cancel, as she's got so much going on, and we have reservations at the Diner for actual Turkey Day. She seemed relieved to do that. With her unit so understaffed, and bonuses being offered so often, she's working a lot. Add to that Eddie's nursing school schedule and his job as ER transport in another hospital, and Julianna's senior year schedule, and Ed's work schedule which is more regular, and you have a busy family! It's a wonder we ever see any of them!

So, more sewing time for me! I also did about 4 rows on the latest baby afghan last night while I finished watching Moonflower Murders.

December "Fun"

December is shaping up, ugh. I now have appointments with the podiatrist, dentist for a root canal and crown, and dermatology for removal of the basal cell on my cheek. Too much fun. Ick. So add Ick to Rage and Despair, and Merry Fecking Christmas.

After I got both of  Steph's tablerunners backed and topstitched, I laid out this one yesterday. Moved a couple of squares around this morning, may sew this afternoon.

I talked to my brother Mike. Two different psychics told two different people that Joe came across and said Michael and Samantha's baby would be born in February. Baby is due March 2, so the end of February is right in range. Mike said things in Heaven must be slow if Joe is running around telling psychics when the baby is due. I said I guess mom is done yelling at Joe, since it's been 5 years since he died.

Today is Joe's 38th birthday in Heaven, I still can't believe he's gone. I tear up every time I pass the cemetary. I have a ritual, I salute my Dad and Pop, blow a kiss to Mom and MomMom, and put my hand to my heart for Joe. And most times I don't cry.

We got snow flurries this morning! Joe probably sent them to us, too.

Mid week

The weeks are flying by! Maybe because we're older?

I finished the 3rd of the Chronicles of the One Trilogy. So good! The magickal battle between light and dark, complete with dragons! Now I need a fluffy read.

I got Steph and Dan's coffee themed table runner top sewed together, and it's pinned to the backing and batting.

With the leftover squares, I made a smaller one.

Rooted around and found the perfect backing fabric for them! I have no memory of buying this, but there's a couple of yards.

Today we have our monthly lunch with an old friend from my school nurse days. There used to be several of us, but death and nursing homes stopped all but us and Mary Ester.

And I have to make a dentist appointment, ick.

Monday again

 The weeks sure fly by!

What is it with men and leaf blowers? There are some near me who blow leaves for hours and hours and hours! Personally, I'd clear the driveway and walkway, and leave the rest. I've read that the energy usage and noise pollution from them is off the charts.

I finished the second in the trilogy, and started the third. Even tho plague novels aren't my thing, these sucked me right in. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors.

I laid out this tablerunner for Steph and Dan, let it sit for a day, and moved the squares around. Goal for today is to sew them together. There were 42 squares in the package, and 27 of them made the tablerunner. I used the rest and laid out a smaller square one. I want to get this done, and start on Xmas ones, as per Heather's request.

Sewing Saturday

I'm still rage sewing, that won't change anytime soon. It might continue for 4 years. Or at least 2, depending on the midterm elections. Jeez, I was never that into politics. I voted for lots who won, and lots who lost, and nothing much changed. Then came 2015, and my late mom said we should change our registration from Republican to Democrat, because a crazy, evil person was running as a Republican. So her and I did, and I started paying attention- mom was way ahead of me. And we all know how it's gone since then. I was not crazy about Hillary, too much baggage, but at least she's sane. And the country has had so many problems since.

Anyway, I sewed the 26 burp diapers and one receiving blanket.

I'm happy with how they turned out. I've made a ton of them over the years. Some of these will go to Michael and Samantha, some will be put away for the next generation- Jake, Eddie, Connor, Tori, Zac, and later Justin, Julianna, Kenzie. Yikes, I'm going to need more!

The latest baby afghan in progress. I've made about a half dozen so far, using up yarn. A couple will go to Samantha, then the rest stored along with the burp diapers. I have a bunch of baby oversized receiving blankets stored, too.

Steph and Dan love coffee, and I found a line of coffee themed fabric and got a charm pack. I just laid out a zigzag table runner with it, and I'll let it sit overnight and decide if I like the way it's laid out.

I'm halfway thru Of Blood and Bone, the second in the trilogy of The One. It's really hooked me.

Sewing and reading

I had a book in transit from a branch to my branch library, so I didn't want to do errands til it arrived, I didn't want to make two trips. I didn't get the text til after 4 pm, so we decided to wait til today. We'll go to the diner for breakfast, to the post office to mail Manda a table runner, and to the library.

So I  caught up on the late night shows and turned all of the burp diapers right side out and pinned them so they don't shift while sewing. There's about 30 of them, and it took all afternoon to do. So I can start the top stitching, maybe this afternoon. Jimmy Kimmel was almost in tears the day after the election's show.

This was a strange one, the first of another trilogy. I had to check when she wrote it- maybe 2016- because it's about a global pandemic called Doom. Almost half the world's population dies, and many of the survivors develop supernatural powers- witches, fae, and some really evil ones. Add the evil ones to people afraid of the supernaturals, and it's a bad mix. I wasn't sure I'd like it or finish it, but it sucked me in, and I'm ready to start the second book.

I'm still in a rage over the election, and don't see that changing. The convict is already breaking laws, some that he signed! And the Republican "leadership" doesn't have a spine among them.

Quiet Sunday

Yesterday I got nothing done and it took all day to do!

Book two of the O'Dwyer cousins.

And book 3. Lots of woowoo, love, ancient evil, humor, witches and animals. No wonder she's a top selling author!

Grandson Eddie got #1 in his class! He's been racing since he was about 6. He's going to nursing school, and wants to be an ER nurse like Grandpop. Such a great kid.

I snagged this meme to save for comparison. I'm still in a state of rage and despair and don't expect it to go away any time soon. That old saying about being doomed to repeat history if it's not learned from is sure true.

Today is Veterans Day. Ralph served in Vietnam in the SeaBees. I love that the Vietnam Vets are finally acknowledged. Today he'll get a voucher for a meal at Texas Roadhouse, and probably have lunch at Applebees. We're just not inclined to run all over creation getting all the available offers. My dad would have! He'd have left the house at zero dark thirty, ate his way thru south jersey, and come home with tons of leftovers. Sadly, he passed in 2007 before the acknowledgement meals were a thing.

Sewing while in Rage and Despair

I'm still in shock and disbelief. After I checked several times to make sure the felon really won, I went into the sewing room. My nephew and his wife are having a baby girl in March. I had some burp diapers (cloth diaper backed with flannel) cut out and pinned, so I sewed ten of  them.

That was Wednesday. Thursday I got out the two packs of diapers I had bought a while ago, and started cutting backing flannel.

I got another ten ready to go. Friday we had to go to Sam's club to pick up my new glasses, and went to Aldi.

Saturday morning I got the final ten cut, and pinned all twenty, plus an oversized receiving blanket. Then we had to leave to have a late lunch with our cookie swap group- no cookies.

I don't know how much I'll get done today, as it's our usual Sunday lunch with Frank and Charlotte. Tomorrow is Veterans Day, so we'll stop at Texas Roadhouse to get his dinner coupon, then he'll go to the town's ceremony and I'll be here because our monthly housecleaner is coming. So I'll hole up in the sewing room while she cleans.

I'm in shock. I simply can't believe it.

November!

Election Day Eve! I can't stand it, I just want it to be over and her to win, and the Evil One be banished from the kingdom. It's exhausting.

Four table runners in progress! I actually finished two of them, and plan to finish another one today.

The one I kept! It looks so cheerful!

Another fantastic book! It's an older series, so I'm moving on to book 2. Nora never disappoints. Ireland, witches, magick, evil vs. good, light vs. dark, romance, love and lust.

 This looks interesting.

I have another baby afghan in progress, but haven't taken a pic of it yet.
